“Let’s Talk Weddings”

By Zena McCarthy, bridal makeup artist UK & destination specialist

You’ve said yes to the proposal, the ring fits like a dream… so, what now?

One of the first pieces of advice I always share with my newly engaged brides is this: tune in to the WILDLEYEDPOD — a podcast every bride planning a wedding should hear. Hosted by Kasheria (wedding planner) and Vicky (wedding celebrant), it’s packed with tips on budgeting, timelines, and navigating the start of your planning journey. If you’re just starting to think about venues, suppliers, and how to stay sane through it all, this is your go-to.

✨ Book your venue — now what?

You’ve got your venue secured, your caterer confirmed, and your wedding photographer (hopefully!) booked.
Now it’s time to think about your bridal beauty team.

If you’ve got a specific bridal makeup artist in mind (hello!), make sure they’re available for your date — and don’t wait too long to secure your wedding makeup booking with a deposit.

✨ The Dress, the Vision — and a Look to Match

Most brides I work with tell me they fell in love with a dress they never would have picked. But when you know, you know — it just feels right.
Tears from Mum. Emotional friends. That “this is it” moment.

But here’s something many brides overlook: your bridal hair and makeup should evolve to match the real dress and venue you chose — not just the Pinterest board you started with.
This is where I step in.

✨ Choosing your wedding makeup artist — without stress

Picking the right wedding makeup artist can feel overwhelming. That’s why I (and many others), offer a no-obligation phone call — so we can see if we connect.
We’ll talk about your venue, your makeup style, what kind of wedding photos you dream of, and a bit about you.

I’ve worked with women who told me they “don’t do makeup” — and they walked down the aisle glowing with confidence. I’ve connected with brides over a glass of wine, the changing seasons, or simply because we clicked. (You’ll feel it when it’s right.)

✨ What it’s like to work with me (and why experience matters)

With 20+ years in the bridal makeup industry, I bring a calming presence, adaptability, and an understanding of different skin tones, wedding environments, and makeup for mature skin. Whether you’re planning a countryside wedding or getting married abroad, I’m here to make sure you feel beautiful and at ease.

After you book:

  • You’ll receive a simple contract

  • Pay a deposit to hold your date

  • And we’ll connect via WhatsApp to share images, inspiration, and updates, and general chit chat!

✨ Makeup trial: 3–6 months before the big day

We’ll schedule your bridal makeup trial well before your wedding date — usually around 3–6 months out.
By then, we’ll have had lots of chats, so I’ll already have a feel for what works for you, your likes and dislikes, and personality.

My style is either natural bridal makeup , or an elegant black flick and soft red lip— I use makeup to enhance your beauty, not hide it. You should still look and feel like yourself.

✨ The skincare prep no one tells you about

I don’t just turn up on the day. I work with you in the months beforehand to create a bridal skincare routine that gives you energy and a beautiful glow. We’ll talk water, supplements, facials — and how to manage your skin around work, stress, and wedding prep.

✨ Want a second wedding look for the evening?

A growing trend is the “second look” — a fresh makeup change after the speeches, before the dancing. Many professional bridal makeup artists (myself included) now offer full-day bookings for this.
Whether you want a bold lip, a touch more drama, or just to freshen up — it’s all possible.

✨ Final thoughts

Planning your wedding should feel beautiful, calm, and exciting. Choosing a makeup artist isn’t just about lipstick — it’s about trust, connection, and feeling truly seen and understood.
