The season of change

Posted on 5th October 2024

October, and it’s all change!

Autumn is such a beautiful season to get married in. Those crunchy auburn leaves, the cool freshness in the air, and the feeling that everything is winding down after a hectic summer. It’s a time of new beginnings, whether you’re settling back into things after a holiday or just feeling refreshed by those long summer evenings.

As a bride, you want to be on top of your skincare routine to ensure your complexion copes well with all the seasonal changes which are in store. Here are some skincare MUSTS to capture that Autumnal glow:

1. Hydrate: As the weather gets cooler, your skin can become dry and dehydrated. Make sure to drink plenty of water to hydrate from within. One of my biggest recommendations is to get into the habit of making your 1st drink of the day a hot water and lemon. If you are as forgetful as I am, set an alarm to remind you to go and have a glass of water throughout the day. And then treat yourself to a herbal tea (or a hot drink of your choice) before going to bed.  I recommend Arbonne’s dream tea, which is a gorgeous blend of lemon balm, chamomile, peppermint, sweet basil, lavender and valerian. www.arbonne.com

2. Exfoliate: the purpose of this step is to remove dead skin cells and reveal a fresh layer of skin, giving your skin a smoother appearance but also allowing your make up base to go on nice and easily. As the nights draw in and the air cools, exfoliate no more than once a week. Many of us find that our skin becomes a little more sensitive during this time, and too much exfoliation can agitate and irritate. Adding this weekly step to your skincare routine will make a world of difference, allowing your moisturiser to penetrate the skin and get to where it’s needed. What’s more, your makeup will go on like a dream.

3. Protect: This step is so important. I see so many clients relaxing their SPF use as the Autumn and Winter months draw in. Even though the sun may not be a constant and obvious presence in our lives right now, it's still crucial to protect your skin from UV rays every single day. Apply a broad-spectrum sunscreen daily to prevent sun damage. I love the tinted Bondi Sun SPF 50 www.bondisands.co.uk

4. Sleep: Lack of sleep, and restless night can lead to dull and tired-looking skin. Dark circles under the eyes tend to stem from 3 different causes: dehydration (which we’ve covered), genetics (invest in a vitamin K eye cream), or, you guessed it, lack of sleep.  Aim to get at least 7-8 hours of sleep each night to allow your skin to repair and regenerate.  You can also invest in a silk pillowcase - they are amazingly gentle on your skin and hair while you sleep.

5. Food: Eat a balanced diet: What you eat can have a significant impact on your skin's appearance. Incorporate fruits, vegetables, and whole grains into your diet to nourish your skin from the inside out.

6.  Serum Adding a serum to your skincare routine, can provide additional hydration and target specific skin concerns. For a glow, look for one with ingredients like vitamin C. To calm redness look for niacinamide. Rejuvinating look for Bakuchiol or retinol.
Serums can be used either AM or PM so incorporate them to fit YOUR schedule.

7. Moisturiser : Changing your moisturiser to a thicker, richer cream never goes amiss during these colder months. Regardless of your skin type, you’ll need that little bit of extra moisture as the air becomes crisper. There is no secret formula for this; everyone’s skin is different! Do your research, read reviews of different products, and don’t be shy to speak to someone or drop me a message, I love chatting skin care and makeup
